Second place in the Mars rover competition for students from Czestochowa
Every year, young engineers descend on the Utah desert to compete in the University Rover Challenge (URC). During the competitionow rovers constructed by studentow compete on the route, where it is necessary to take probki of soil for analysis, collect tools scattered in the field or make repairs to equipment. Assessed is the rohe time of the journey, the technological solutions used in the rover and the support the rover can guarantee to the astronaut were also taken into account.
This year’s edition was attended by 36 teamsow of seven countriesow. For the first time since 2010, the competition was won by a teamoł from the StateoIn the United States – Mars Rover Design Team, representing Missouri University of Science and Technology. American students scored a total of more than 403 points. Second place went to students from the Częstochowa University of Technology. They scored just over 330 in the competitionow. This is the student’s biggest success to dateow from Czestochowa in this competition, although the Polish teams from Bialystok and Rzeszow won the competition itself a total of five times. In third place in this year’s competitionow ranked the teamoł from the American Brigham Young University. The BYU Mars Rover team scored more than 324 points.
Polish students have finished on the podium almost every year in recent years. Teams from Polish universities have been participating in the competition since 2009. They achieved their first success in 2011, inowwhile the Magma2 rover prepared at the Bialystok University of Technology took the top step of the podium. Students from Bialystok University of Technology took first place again in 2013 and 2014 with the rover Hyperion and Hyperion 2.
In 2015, the Legendary Rover Team from the Rzeszow University of Technology won the competition. On the other hand, the third place went to the compositeoł Scorpio from the Wroclaw University of Technology, and the fourth rover #next built by studentow from the Bialystok University of Technology. In 2016, the competition was again won by the Legendary Rover Team. Third place went to the compositeoContinuum from the University of Wroclaw.
