Awarded "Polish Nobels"
The Awards of the Foundation for Polish Science – popularly known as the "Polish Nobels". This year’s laureates are Professor Daniel Gryko, Professor Krzysztof Pomian, Professor Andrzej Trautman and Professor Piotr Trzonkowski.
This is already 26. edition of the Nagrod of the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). The prizes are awarded to Polish scientists for the particularolne scientific achievements and discoveries, whichore pushing the boundaries of cognition and opening up new cognitive perspectives, as well as making an outstanding contribution to the civilizational and cultural progress of our country. The amount of the award is 200 thousand zlotys.
The awards are given in four categories. In the area of life and earth sciences, the wyroProfessor Piotr Trzonkowski of the Medical University of Gdansk was killed. Trzonkowski was honored for his research on regulatory T lymphocytes (TREG) and for his pioneering application of these cellsorecord in the treatment of diseaseob human – type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and the disease "graft versus host”. The researcher is the author of a therapy for comorkowa, whichora involves weakening the patient’s immune system destroying its own organs.
From the field of chemical and material sciences, the prize was awarded to Professor Daniel Gryko from the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, ktory received it for the development of an original method of synthesis and characterization of compoundsow of the porphyrinoid groupow. Professor Gryko has been working on organic dyes for the summer o is the author of an effective method for obtaining them. Dyes synthesized by Gryko are fluorescent and can emit light. Thanks to the professor’s work, the possibility of their mass synthesis and the possibility of their new applications, if only in medical diagnostics, has been created.
In the field of mathematical, physical and engineering sciences, Professor Andrzej Trautman of Warsaw University was honored. Trautman in the 1950s. XX in. wnioff great contributions to gravitational radiation research. Without the work of a Pole, there would be no Nobel Prize in physics this year. His work has formed the basis for most research on gravitational waves. It was Trautman who proved that gravitational waves cannot be eliminated from the pattern ofow through the transformation of rownań – Are therefore real and should be detectable. Read more about Professor Trautman’s work in an interview with Professor Lewandowski.
The award in the field of humanities and social sciences went to Prof. Krzysztof Pomian of the CNRS in Paris and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
